Seronokbatam.online - Brunei Darussalam | The Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan held the Ceremony to commemorate the Heroes’ Day 2022, Thursday (10/11).
Acting as Inspector of the Ceremony was the Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Dr Sujatmiko, while the Commander of the Ceremony was Major Caj. Tinton Kurniawan, Assistant Defense Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar.
The ceremony was attended by all staff of the Indonesian Embassy, Dharma Wanita Persatuan (Embassy’s Women Association), and representatives from various communities and Indonesian students residing in Brunei Darussalam.
At the ceremony, historical account of the national heroes were read, such as the role of Ki Hajar Dewantara (Hero of Education), Doctor Cipto Mangunkusumo (Hero of Health), Tjut Nyak Dien (Hero of Independence from Aceh), and R.A Kartini (Hero of Women's Rights and Female Education).
The reading of the message is meant to reinvoke the spirit of the struggle to build the nation and to absorb the values that are taught to be applied in everyday life.
“Current conditions are very different if compared to the situation of the heroes in the past. However, the context will remain the same, that the struggle will never stop in an effort to improve the Indonesian people’s welfare," said Ambassador Sujatmiko.
Even though it was held in a simple one, the ceremony still felt solemn and also ran in an orderly and smooth manner.
In his remarks, Ambassador Sujatmiko said that Heroes' Day should not only be remembered every November 10th, but it should be more meaningful than just a routine commemoration every year.
The Heroes Day is to commemorate and honor the struggle of the heroes, and their fights to maintain independence, as well as to build collective memory which could increase people's awareness to emulate and to implement the noble values of heroes in everyday life.
The Hero's Day should also be to instill heroic values into the young generation to fill independence. With this heroic spirit, it is hoped that they will participate in developing Indonesia, according to their respective potentials and professions.
This is in accordance with the theme of Heroes' Day 2022 "My Heroes are My Models".
November 10 was designated as Hero's Day in 1959 by the First President of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno.
The date is a form of respect for the historic event to defend Indonesia's independence, the Battle of Surabaya on November 10, 1945 and also to commemorate the services of the heroes. (And)
