    The Indonesian Ambassador Entrusts Indonesian Migrant Workers to Belait Regional Government

    Seronokbatam.online - Brunei Darussalam | To further strengthen cooperation and good relations with the Belait Regional Government, the Indonesian Ambassador in Brunei Darussalam, Dr. Sujatmiko held a meeting with the Acting Belait District Officer and other officials at the Belait Office, on Thursday (Des, 06/22).

    Representatives of the Penghulu Mukim and Village Heads in Belait also attended the meeting.

    In the meeting, the Indonesian Ambassador conveyed, among other things, that the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan as the representative of the Indonesian Government in Brunei, wishes to continue to enhance its good relations with the Belait Regional Government.

    The Indonesian Ambassador also expressed his gratitude to the Belait Regional Government and all Penghulu Mukim and Village Heads in Belait who have welcomed the Indonesian community in Belait. 

    As migrant workers in Brunei Darussalam, the Indonesian community takes part in the Brunei economic development. 

    The Ambassador entrusted Indonesian citizens in the Belait District with safety and protection.

    The Ambassador also said that currently, in Belait, apart from working in the oil and gas sector, many Indonesian workers have started working in the agricultural industry. 

    The Belait area will be one of the programs of the Indonesian Embassy in collaboration with the District of Belait to bring in farmers and farming experts from Indonesia to work on the fields in Belait.

    According to the records of the Indonesian Embassy, in November 2022, the number of Indonesian citizens in Brunei is 26,738 people, and 3,170 of them live in Belait. 

    However, this number does not include Indonesian citizens who have yet to register themselves to the Embassy.

    It is estimated that the total number of Indonesian citizens, including those who have not registered, is around 50,000 people spread across four districts in Brunei, namely, Brunei-Muara, Belait, Tutong, and Temburong. 

    Many Indonesian workers in Belait work in the agricultural sector.

    At the end of the meeting, the Coordinator for Consular and Protocol Affairs of the Embassy, Arif Suyoko, shared information about efforts to protect the Indonesian citizens, especially its migrant workers in the Belait area. 

    The Indonesian Embassy requests the Belait Office to work with the Embassy to protect Indonesian citizens who experience problems. (Red)
